Title: Shallow Grave

Shallow Grave is a film I had never seen until recently. I’ve always been a devout fan of Danny Boyle’s ever since Trainspotting ruptured its way into my brain, but this is at a much earlier time in Boyle’s career. This film is low budget, but its also really good. It was shot almost entirely in a hollowed out warehouse, and despite the size of the set, Boyle manages to make the setting claustrophobic and deeply unsettling. I find this film so inspirational because it seems like something within my own grasp. No hefty financial constraints or interested third parties dictating how things should look or be arranged, just the right barebones tools to create the writer’s and director’s vision. It wouldn’t be the same great film if it’d had money being pumped into it, and that’s why I love it so much.
